What Are Ductless Mini-split Systems and How Do They Work?
A ductless mini-split system is made up of an indoor unit linked to an outdoor compressor. Basically, the compressor works to cool or heat air (depending on the season of the year) that is sent into your home by way of the indoor unit.
This process of cooling or heating rooms in your home is accomplished by means of a refrigerant line connecting the indoor and outdoor units, rather than through the ductwork that’s used in traditional HVAC units.
With a mini-split system, you have small units in each room that work to either cool or heat that room. In summer, the refrigerant in the ductless system cools rooms by absorbing heat and transferring the heat outdoors. In winter, the system is reversed, as heat from the outside is brought into your home by way of the refrigerant line. And believe it or not, even on the coldest days, there is heat in the air that can be brought into your home via a ductless mini-split system.
